Description

This opinion writing rubric was created to assess and provide feedback for opinion essays. There are a total of 5 rubrics, all are divided into 3 categories that can be aligned with Six Traits of Writing. The categories are ideas and organization, language use and style, and conventions. (Language use and style encompass the voice, word choice, and sentence fluency of Six Traits.)

The rubrics are 5 point. 1- Beginning, 2-Emerging, 3-Adequate, 4-Strong, 5-Exemplary. Some of these are accompanied with designated percentages, but some are left blank for teacher's discretion.

Two rubrics allow for the teacher to comment on strengths and weaknesses of the student's paper. The other option is for the student to note two strengths and highlight two weaknesses they would like to work on in the future. (Student driven)
