Opinion Writing: Perfect for the fall season! With this packet, students will understand the difference between fact and opinion. They will listen to, or read, two different spider books, participate in discussion, and complete a graphic organizer of facts learned about spiders. Students will then complete a spider craftivity on which they will write facts they learned. This packet offers two different options for this activity so you can differentiate. Students also compare and contrast the presentation of the two books. Three different options are offered in this packet for comparing and contrasting. Students discuss the difference between fact and opinion and participate in a sorting activity to gain an understanding of the difference between the two. Students will finally follow the steps in the writing process to write a letter to the teacher stating their opinion of the spider book they enjoyed the most. Three different rough copy graphic organizers are included for differentiation. Finished products make a super cute fall bulletin board!

• L1 – Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking
• L2 – Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing
• W1 - Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons for that opinion, use linking words to connect opinion and reasons and provide a concluding statement.
