This is COMMON CORE ALIGNED!
If you want your students to remember at least one fun, educational moment in your class, than this is it! This is a hands on and engaging project that will allow the students who are not good at the everyday academic objectives to flourish and show what they can really do! I look forward to the end of the school year just so I can do this with my kiddos! It is amazing to watch those kids who have an "I don't care" attitude about everything put effort and love into this project. The ending products that they come up with are just fantastic and you will be one proud teacher! Even the adults that walk passed or know what is going on in class love it. They want to come watch the presentations! Everything you need for this project is included EXCEPT the You tube Videos . Those you will just have to search for and there are SO MANY.
This idea came from me watching Shark Tank one night during the time when I just started Opinion/Persuasive Writing in my class. I have to adapt it a little bit, but the kids love this, because it is just like they are an actual entrepreneur on the show!
Here is what is included:
* Step by step and day by day directions on how to teach this and spread out the days – there are 14 of them. What is in blue are the explicit directions – everything else are explanations.
*An OREO handout you can give the students that represents the format to write an opinion/persuasive paper
*A brainstorming worksheet for REASONS and EXAMPLES/EXPLANATIONS
*A worksheet to practice and brainstorm your introduction - a separate part for an individual, group of two, group of three, and a blank section in case you want the students to have a different introduction that the one I included.
*A worksheet to practice and brainstorm your conclusion – this is just blank. On the same page as the practiced conclusion is a section to draw a draft of their invention
*One Rough Draft copy for the students to write their rough draft on – I only provided 1, because you can copy as many sheets as you think the students will need or give them out on a need to know basis. These have lines on the sides for the students to put the speaker’s name’S, so each presenter knows who is saying what line. They only have to write their name once and skip the other lines until a different person speaks.
*There is a peer edit rubric included – the more feedback the better! There is also a sample peer edit rubric for the students to use a reference when filling out their own
*A final draft – 1 page with the title and another with just lines that can be copied for longer Scripts
*Three different copies of designed paper that the students can draw their final invention pictures on – I made 1 of each portrait style and the other’s are landscape depending on what their inventions look like.
*A final grading rubric to use for presentations
You will not regret purchasing this product, because I promise, this is not only going to be your students' favorite project, but yours as well.
