Persuasive/opinion writing is an engaging and fun way to allow students to share what they believe with the world.
What is included:
Characteristics of Opinion Texts – a one page list of features usually found in opinion texts.
Reviewing an Opinion Text – in these two pages, students will select or use a teacher-chosen opinion text to review. Students will read or scan the opinion text, checking off each characteristic that they find. Students will then analyze the text and write about why/how they agree/disagree with the author's opinion.
Write About Your Own Opinion – students will use the graphic organizer provided to create their own opinion writing piece.

Opinion Writing (Peer Review) – Students will review the opinion writing of a classmate, checking off the features they have found (using yes/no checkbox format) and writing comments. This worksheet is ideal for the revising stage of the editing process.
Opinion Writing Rubric – Teachers can use this rubric to score student work on a four-point scale.
Opinion Writing Ideas – 20 ideas are provided for students to choose from, or they can choose another idea.
