The purpose of this exercise is to teach the students how to distinguish facts from opinions. This lesson was designed for a sixth grade class of limited English language learners. The story of Amelia Earhart was one of the lessons in their basal reader. The language level of this story was somewhat difficult for the students to understand because of some of the vocabulary used. So, I designed this lesson so that the students would be able to develop a command of the new vocabulary by interacting with each other using hands-on activities as well as participating in a brief play.
