This is a common core lesson about the opponents of the New Deal with readings and a graphic organizer. This can be done in cooperative groups using either jigsaw, stations, or mini groups teaching the class about the their group. Students will read a short passage about either Huey Long, Father Coughlin, The Townsend Plan, The Socialist Challenge, and the American Liberty League.
Students complete a graphic organizer about the organization or person, criticisms of the New Deal and proposals for reform, and views about government. They also complete a section about their own evaluation such as "do you agree with these concerns? Why or why not?" They can either present their finds with a group or the whole class.
