Things That Could Be Helpful
An Example: Seen the "light" and "dark" activity yet? It's different.
It is made to distinguish between light and dark in a way that will force the student to focus on just that. Students slip “light” or “dark” pieces into slits cut into the background scene. Dark pieces slip in the dark places. Light pieces slip into the light. Pieces are labeled either ‘light’ or ‘dark’ so there is no confusion about what the piece represents.
There is no particular placing of the pieces, other than they need to be “in the dark,” This allows the student to change where the pieces go if desired. Pieces were chosen so that they may, in some cases, belong in this Escher-looking scene. It is a mnemonic and strategic tactic.
Some of the other activities are more straightforward, but all have more than one layer of teaching concepts while using real-life pictures.
