Knowledge and understanding of adjectives are essential parts of reading and writing. This resource will provide students with describing vocabulary that can be used by your students to enhance descriptive writing skills and aid comprehension while reading.

There are 96 task cards. Each card has an illustration to aid with comprehension. The task cards ask for the opposite word of the word presented on the card. Six of the task cards recording sheets have fifteen questions on each worksheet and one has six questions. An answer sheet is also included and could be used for peer correction.

WORKSHEETS
There are four worksheet for matching opposite words, The student has to draw a line to match opposite words. Answers are provided.

WORDS FOR MATCHING
• This could be an individual or pair work matching activity.
• These cards could be put in a container and used as Bingo Call Out cards. Cards would be picked out at random and students would then cover the opposite word if it was on their board.

TASK CARDS and RECORDING SHEETS
There are 96 task cards. Each card has an illustration to aid with comprehension. The task cards ask for the opposite word of the word presented on the card. Six of the task cards recording sheets have fifteen questions on each worksheet and one has six questions. An answer sheet is also included and could be used for peer correction.

Suggestions for use:

1. One Task Card and one task recording sheet could be given to each student who would write down the opposite word in the appropriate place on the Recording Sheet. Speaking in English and interaction with others would be required for the location of the other cards . Models of a question or statement could be provided e.g. Who has card 10?or I’m looking for card 15.
2. The Task Cards could be placed around the classroom allowing students to walk around looking for the required Task Card then recording the opposite word on their Recording Sheets.

PUZZLE ACTIVITY
The Puzzle Activity could be used by an individual or 2 or more players. The thirty cards would be shared out between the players. The player on the left of the dealer begins by placing a card on the table. Players take turns to place the matching cards. If he /she is unable to play, the next player takes his/ her turn to place a card. The winner is the first to use up all his/her cards. The game should then continue until all the cards are placed in their correct positions. If students say the words as they are placed it will help with the retention of unknown vocabulary. This also allows others to hear the words and possibly learn from other students.

BINGO CARDS
There are 27 Bingo Base Boards This game is more interesting and challenging because the students have not only to know the word but also the opposite word which must be covered. If a smaller number of students are playing the game, students could be given more than one Bingo Base Board. As previously mentioned the words for matching could be put in a container and selected at random. The drawn cards should then be placed in another container, so that the words can be used to check that the student who shouts ‘Bingo’ has not made any errors. While playing the game students would cover the appropriate word with a marker . Coloured and white rectangular markers are provided if required for placing on the Bingo Base Cards or alternatively counters or any other available markers could be used. When a card is completed the student shouts BINGO! and his /her card should be checked by using the retained drawn card.
A much easier version of the game would help with the reading of the opposite words. Students would then look for, read and cover the same word which is called out. Using the game this way before the more challenging version could be helpful to less advanced students.
