Oral motor exercises have several benefits including:
-strengthening, stretching, and coordinating mouth and facial muscles, and;
- helping children develop age-appropriate, functional skills such as cleaning food from a spoon, drinking from a straw or an open cup, and blowing.
Most children love repetition, music, and silly faces. Oral motor songs are a fun way to incorporate all of these components into speech therapy. Oral motor songs encourage children to use their lips, cheeks, and tongue.
