This is a tiered (leveled) activity that uses the Gary Soto narrative poem "Oranges" (available online). There are three levels that you can use to match the writing skills and abilities of your students.
This activity has students writing the poem as a diary entry from the point of view of the girl, as a narrative story, and as a challenge, from the point of view of the girl as a poem.
You can use this as small group work, partner work or as an individual writing assignment.
Brainstorming graphic organizers and the Georgia Milestone Narrative response self-assessment rubric are included along with an exit ticket out the door.
This is a fun, engaging activity that really pushes students to use their creative and narrative writing skills.
