Students love making words with the calculator by turning the calculator upside down. This activity uses that love to engage students in evaluating numerical expressions using the calculator and the correct order of operations.
Students are given a clue or question. Then they are given a numerical expression. They use the order of operations and a calculator to evaluate the expression then turn the calculator upside down to find the answer! Students love this activity and stay very engaged in it. Plus, it helps students understand that a calculator only gives you correct answers if you know how to use it and the correct ORDER to type things into the calculator.
This download includes two ways to use this activity:
1) Task Cards to be used for a partner activity
2) A Worksheet to be used for individual practice or homework
This activity works great as part of an order of operations unit or just a fun activity for the end of the year!
