Product Description
I created this product to help my students that the order of operations creates equivalent expressions as the student works toward the solution.

This product includes three separate sets of cards that students will match on the work page. The set with numbers is the original order of operations expression. The set with letters is the second step in solving the order of operations expression. The set with symbols is an equivalent expression of the second step of working the expression. The equivalent expressions include prime factorization, integer equivalents, and fraction/decimal equivalents.

Each set of cards is printed with a different border. If you would like to use only one color of card stock, students will be able to differentiate the sets and match the borders with the borders on the work mat. I prefer to print each set on a different color of card stock so that students can easily see that they must have one card from each color to successfully complete the activity. Once students have matched the cards, they can self-check using a printed copy of the answer key.

This activity is also easily used with the Seesaw app.

I’ve also included an accountability sheet if you’d like students to record their answers for your review.

TEKS 6.7A The student is expected to generate equivalent numerical expressions using order of operations, including whole number exponents and prime factorization.

TEKS 6.7C The student is expected to determine if two expressions are equivalent using concrete models, pictorial models, and algebraic representations.
