This file include an entire lesson for order of operations. The original set of notes is designed for students to watch a video at home and then fill in the blanks. This works well with a flipped classroom.
The main activity of the class is for students to work together to determine the importance of order! They begin with working through a story and putting it in order so that the process makes sense. They are then followed up with a few questions which lead them to working with order of operations in math.
The classwork afterwards is designed for 3 levels of students. Tier 1 are the lowest working students. It includes 2 more story problems, a few find the error problems, and then easier order of operations problems and a single word problem. Tier 2 does not contain the story, but still contains find the errors, a few more concept practice, and a few more word problems. Tier 3 is for the advanced students in the class. This tier contains very few of the find the error problems, harder order of operation concept problems, and many word problems.
The classwork can also be used as homework.
