Order of Operation Ouchies!
Practice the order of operations in a fun way. This does include parentheses and exponents, but very basic.
There has been a Number Wreck and the patients have been sent to the Mathematical Emergency Room! Some patients are okay, but some have Order of Operation Ouchies and need to be repaired. Check each patient. Use your pencil for surgery and show work on your work paper. On your medical chart, If the patient is okay, leave them alone. If they have an Ouchie, put a Band-Aid on them with the fixed solution written on the Band-Aid.
· I copy the 12 Patients on cardstock. I have 4 or 5 sets and put my class into groups. Each group has a set and can share the Patients.
· The “Band-Aids” are the small circle stickers that are used for pricing. My original plan was to copy band-aids onto return shipping labels, but that plan didn’t work so well for me.
· To get my students a little more “into it”, we have surgical masks and caps on and doctor labels. I also search YouTube for Hospital noises and play as students work.
