Order of Operations - Quick Explanation for Teacher - Implement with students.
Nothing Fancy. I used this to PD with teachers in small groups, so I knew they were up-to-speed.
Educators try to follow PEMDAS to the letter...literally to the letter. But, if subtraction comes before addition - subtraction is the FIRST operation. Same with Division and Multiplication. It is a common error in pedagogy of this arithmetic math.
Again, nothing fancy. But, teachers I worked with really liked it for a review of their lesson work. Plus, they structured lessons in this line of sequencing depending on the grade level they were teaching (i.e. 3rd graders did just the simple addition, subtraction and parenthesis), then simple multiplication and division were added in after mastery of addition/subtraction, as expected. Same with 4th graders and up.
Best with your students!
