This Order of Operations True or False Activity is designed to be used as a math center activity but could also be utilized in other ways during your math instruction, such as for a review activity or as a group task.
The pack contains two sets of number sentence cards at two different levels of difficulty. The first set of cards has number sentences that contain the four operations and parentheses. The second set of cards has number sentences that contain the four operations, parentheses, and exponents.
Students receive one sheet of the cards and a double-sided piece of paper that has the “true facts” sort page on one side and the “false facts” sort page on the other. Students cut the cards apart and then evaluate each number sentence to see whether the given answer is correct or incorrect. If the answer for a given number sentence is true, students should paste it onto the side of the paper for true facts and if the answer is incorrect, onto the side of the paper for false facts. Once all of the facts are sorted and glued, students should go back and make corrections to the incorrect answers so that those number sentences will now be correct.
An answer key for the facts is included to make assessing student work simpler!
Eco-Friendly Center Option!: If you want to conserve paper, you can make a laminated copy of both sets of cards and single-sided copies of the true/false sorting pages. Then, students can simply sort the number sentences and place them onto the correct sorting page. They can then use a dry erase marker to correct the incorrect answers.
