Get those brains functioning in a fun way in the New Year! Using the numbers 2, 0, 1, 4 and applying the "Order of Operations" create solutions for values 1-20. Numbers may be combined and the order may be changed such as: 20 – 14 or 10 + 4 ∙ 2. Operations which may be used are addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Grouping symbols, and exponents may also be used. There will be several solutions for each problem.
There is a homepage to hyperlink to each of the 20 number solutions. Student handouts are also part of the lesson. For lower grade levels you may choose to only complete problems for 1-9 which would be 12 slides. You should print 2 pages of 6 PowerPoint slides. This is a great opportunity for cooperative learning. Work with the students on a couple and let them go from there. Have students show their solutions on the interactive whiteboard.
I use a wireless mouse to help facilitate the presentation.
