This set of task cards focuses on the use of parentheses in numerical expressions. The only operations used are addition and subtraction, so you can use this set as early as second grade, but don't be fooled: there is plenty of challenge for older students as well!
Cards 1 to 32 contain two or three numerical expressions that contain the *same* numbers and only differ by the insertion of parentheses in different places. Evaluating these expressions the student will get a better understanding of the role of parentheses. They will observe first-hand when they change the result - and when they don't.
Cards 33 to 40 are puzzles that will challenge the more (mathematically) adventurous students.
I included a double sided answer sheet and a page with the solutions. The solutions are also available as cards, if you prefer to keep them available together with the rest of the cards.
Thank you for dropping by, and HAPPY TEACHING!
