This activity allows for students to either work in pairs or in groups to order a set of real numbers from least to greatest. Following the ordering students will then complete a peer analysis of another groups work (order of real numbers) to check for accuracy and/or errors.
Included in this activity you will find a set of real numbers to be ordered. You could either have the students cut their own set of numbers out within their groups or you could pre-cut and laminate sets of numbers for each group to use. Also included is a peer analysis for each group to complete after they've assessed another groups work. After the analysis has been completed, I would allow between 5-7 minutes for students to read what their peers wrote and discuss their thoughts aloud.
This analysis piece promotes the implementation of productive mathematics discourse within the classroom between students while you as the teacher facilitate.
