I have the students bring in the Oreos and spoons/knives to class. After notes, a YouTube clip or some kind of scaffolding, dis-cuss the directions/procedures with the students. If you don’t print the lab, have the students draw the 8 circles and the sun(See example). Then model how to separate the Oreos. Make sure you tell them to twist the Oreos apart and not pull them apart, otherwise the cookie will crack. Remind students that the frosting represents the sunlit side, which faces the sun every phase. However students will tend to forget that and they will have the dark side of the cookie facing the sun. I have a group of 4 construct one sheet with the cookies and then each student draws their own phases on a separate piece of paper (See example).
Students make one per group of 4
Students make their own chart based on their Oreo arrange
