Prezi is similar to a power point presentation, but better in so many ways. This prezi teaches students how to set up and organize paragraphs and essays using color, a modified version of Step Up To Writing.
*62 slide prezi
*Worksheet that follows the prezi - 5 pages
*Extension writing prompt
*Graphic organizer embedded into the worksheet for the extension activity.
I have used this lesson with 7th and 8th grade students, both mild/moderate sped. students and gen. ed. The visuals and color coding make this more accessible for a variety of learners, hitting many modalities. The colors help students to clearly distinguish between the hook, thesis, topic sentences, details, examples, and evidence. Although it is lengthy, it benefits the students for the remainder of the year and minimizes reteaching. I have 49 minute periods and used 3 for this lesson, well worth the 3 days put in. Within the prezi, examples for hook, thesis, transitions, etc. are given within the prezi, but extra examples are referenced. The extras are not included as I use some from another source and they are not originally created by me. I am working on my own and will include them once made. The examples within the prezi are sufficient and enough for students to understand the concept. This lesson would also be appropriate for 5th and 6th grade students.
I hope this helps your students as much as it has helped mine with organizing their writing.
**This is a zip file, so you will need to know how to unzip. I have a free download on how to do this and tpt also provides instructions on how to unzip. If you are using a PC, getting the prezi downloaded may take several minutes, so please be patient. If you are on a mac it is almost instantaneous.
