In this lesson, your students will gain experience with organizing data collected to answer a statistical question and constructing histograms. Upon completion of this lesson, your students will be able to organize numerical data into intervals using a frequency table and display the data using a histogram. Your students will also have the opportunity to describe the shapes of histograms using terms to which they were introduced in the previous lesson (Lesson 2: Organizing and Displaying Data: Dot Plots). This lesson includes detailed instructional suggestions that can easily be adapted to your students’ needs, a student assignment and answer key, and larger images of graphs and tables to be displayed in class. You can use this lesson to introduce histograms to students in the middle grades (grades 6 – 9).
