This lesson plan uses a Chuck Palahniuk quote to introduce the idea of originality. Students will mind-map ideas about originality, study the connotative meaning of the word original using dialectical journals and accountable talk. They will write a reflective paragraph, and use image chef (a free online program) to overlap photos with words to define originality.
This serves as a great pre-reading lesson for The Outsiders, or any other novel that deals with originality or identity.
Included is a detailed lesson plan that can be used for one day or two, four high-level, critical thinking questions, the quote being analyzed, links to free online programs, a common core standard, and a clear target.
