MODULE 8: Exploring the concept of multiplication and Solving problems involving money included: 8.1 to 8.12 lesson plans for 2nd grade.
Each lesson plan states the Assessment, the Relational Statement, The I Can Statement, the Guided Group Center activities, and the Focus Question Reflection Lesson Closure.
You attach this plan to the Origo Lesson description for each day and it is ready to hand in to your administrator.
There are suggestions for anchor charts and vocabulary.
Module 8: Developing and using subtraction strategies and Introducing standard units of weight measurement [Domain: Number and Operations in Base Ten/ Measurement and Data]
FOCUS: Each module includes a discussion of the mathematical focus for the module (See “Module/Mathematics/Focus”).
In this Module, students are led through a progressively complex set of problems that provide them opportunities to apply strategies for subtracting two-digit numbers. Strategies used include counting on, counting back, using a hundreds chart, using an empty number line, and using base-ten blocks. It is important that students are allowed to choose and explain the strategies that they select to solve various problems. The final five lessons of the module introduce standard units of weight measurement (customary and metric) and introduce the use and interpretation of bar graphs.
Common Core State Standards – Mathematics
Understand place value.
Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones. Understand the following as special cases:
100 can be thought of as a bundle of ten tens — called a "hundred."
Use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract.
Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
Explain why addition and subtraction strategies work, using place value and the properties of operations.
