This is an activity that I created for my high school Ornithology class. Students focus on learning the taxonomic Orders of birds and learning to recognize which birds go into which orders.
In this activity students can create cards for Level One or Level Two. In either case, students cut out pairs of cards. Each pair has a scientific order on one card and example(s) of birds in that order on the other card. The students draw matching pictures on the back of the card.
Level One is a basic game with just one card pair per order. Level Two has more cards and several example pairs per order.
Students then shuffle the cards and place them picture side down on the table. Students take turns trying to turn over 2 cards at a time to make a matching pair. Student with the most pairs at the end of the game wins!
You will receive an 18 page Word document so you may edit to fit your class as needed. There is one cover page with instructions, a page with a list of bird orders, and then 16 pages with pairs of cards.
