This product is intended to be used as a resource for Orton Gillingham instruction. There are 220 sight word cards (from Dolch sight word lists), displayed on mini flash cards (2..5 x 4). Simply print on red cardstock and you have an entire set of OG "red word" cards! I use them to introduce sight words within this phonics program as "red" words because they are words that you typically can't sound out, but instead have to memorize. I teach 2-5 new words a week in small groups and spiral them as flash cards for repetition. When teaching "red" words I like to tell my students to read the word, move and spell the word (with fingers or arm movements) and then close their eyes and spell the word again. I then have my students relate the sight words by using the word in a sentence or visualizing a picture to go along with it to help with memory in isolation.
I make 5 different sets with my "red word" cards:
Set 1; Pre-Primer ‘Red’ Words (Pre-K) (40)
Set 2: Primer ‘Red’ Words (Kindergarten) (52)
Set 3: First Grade ‘Red’ Words (41)
Set 4: Second Grade ‘Red’ Words (46)
Set 5: Third Grade ‘Red’ Words (41)
LABELS FOR EACH SET INCLUDED!
I put my cards, in order, on 5 rings and store all sound cards in a clear, durable pencil pouch!
