Use this chart to introduce the short vowels individually or review them all together. The students love choosing a key word (2 choices are provided) or you can guide them to pick another appropriate word to represent the short vowel as an initial sound.
Students will cut out the key word and paste onto vowel chart. Students will illustrate a picture of their chosen key word.
These steps serve as a visual memory aid for students struggling with short vowel sounds.
I have used similar charts in my tutoring practice for the past 20 years. It is a perfect way to introduce or review the short vowel sounds and it is kept as one of the front pages in their binder. This chart serves as a reference chart frequently during lessons.
