The 1000 Fry List of High Frequency words is used as the basis for Orton Gillingham and the teaching of words that are most frequently seen in written language. Furthermore, OG emphasizes green and red words, which either follow formal English spelling rules, or they don't. When students see green words during daily practice, they know that they can sound out or use spelling rules to help spell that particular word. When students see a red word, they know that it must be committed to memory, as the word does not follow typical English spelling rules. This guide can be used in the classroom to create flashcards, word walls and sight word activities, because all 1000 words are already coded.
