These word cards are minimal pairs of Silent-E vs. Closed syllable words; i.e. tub, tube.

Cards can be used for Word Sorts, Go Fish, War, and a new variation of a reading game I titled "Stop That Cat".

Students first learning the Silent-E syllable type often have difficulty fluently and efficiently shifting between the long vowel of a Silent-E syllable and the short vowel of a Closed syllable.

Use these word cards for word sorting and games for extra repetition. Very flexible. Use as a learning break. Use at the end of a lesson. Send home for quick, fun, extra practice for kids who really struggle with retrieval.

Engaging repetition is an important key to learning, long-term memory, and retrieval.
