This is a pre-made chart for tracking the use of motifs and symbols in Othello. It's a great way to keep students organized in watching the development of these literary concepts throughout the course of the play! It's also an excellent resource for teaching students to identify, cite, and analyze specific lines in a text!
The chart identifies 5 motifs (black/white, animals, gardens/plants, light/darkness, and demons/monsters) and requires students to identify, cite, and explain instances of the motifs in the play.
It also includes space for identifying, citing, and explaining the use of the handkerchief and willow song symbols.
I require to the students to independently chart these items throughout the entirety of the unit, but it could also easily be completed with partners or as a whole class.
