This is a complete set of questions to provoke and test students' learning when studying the play Our Day Out.
I have divided the play into eight parts.
1 – Departure from the School, and Introduction of Characters
2 – The Journey, and more information on the Characters
3 – The Café and Shop
4 – The Zoo
5 – The Castle and Beach – Conflict between Mrs Kay and Mr Briggs
6 – Tension and Suspense – Carol is lost
7 – The New Briggs?
8 – The End
These are low order questions - mostly basic fact-finding. Some seek opinions from students on action or character, and encourage them to justify those opinions. In total there are 190 questions.
To make the handout look interesting and to help students focus, I have included stills from the film of Our Day Out.
I generally study this play with weaker students, and EAL students. This is not a hugely challenging activity for students, but it does help ensure that they read closely and pick up important details.
I'm using a version of the play without the music!
