I felt the generic CAFE menu was not always applicable for our level of readers at our school in Grade 1. A colleague and I took a closer look at the menu and revised it to meet our students needs, and to reword it to suit our personal preferences. We also included the vocabulary that we were using as a school for our reading strategies. (Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish, etc.) I reference this chart in daily conferencing and make notes on a personal chart for each child as they are working on the various skills. I also often note the date on this menu of which date I witnessed the child applying the various skills.
