The Virgin Mary appeared three times to Juan Diego in 1531. She appeared to Juan, a poor but devout farmer asking him for a shrine to be built. His bishop didn't believe him and asked for a sign. Mary told Juan to collect roses from a nearby hill. When Juan Diego opened his cloak, full of roses, the image of Mary was imprinted inside. The cloak is now at the Basilica of Guadalupe. The feast day celebrating the events is December 12.
