This lesson gives students a chance for hands on scientific random sampling. They will ask the question "How many different kinds of plants live in a certain area." Using sampling they will discover what plants are in their lawn and estimate how many by using the technique of random sampling.
The lesson includes the teachers page, a resource page with drawings and descriptions of six common weeds found in lawns, a student activity sheet, a student tally sheet and a brief quiz on the generalizations discussed.
