My husband created this for me (he's a professional scientific and medical illustrator) when I was having trouble getting my students to connect with the relative size, scale, and distance of the planets in our solar system. (That peppercorn, orange, grapefruit model just wasn't working.) Here we've connected all the concepts together in one movie so that students intellectually connect to a complete visual understanding of relative size, scale, and distance of the planets in our solar system, rather than struggling to form a picture based on learning the concepts in isolation. It works! So we've decided to share it with you. You'll love all those light bulbs going off in your students' heads as they watch each planet move from the foreground, to take their place in orbit around the sun with the other planets. Details that distinguish each planet appear in the foreground when the planet first appears on the screen, and we've included the labels for both AU and miles in the movie. Also included is a graphic organizer for student note-taking.
Great resource for math problems as well!
