Here are two activities to complete during a reading and study of Thornton Wilder’s play Our Town. Both allow the students to be creative while also thinking critically about the work.
1. Song Dedications- This activity allows kids to focus on the characters of the play and see that, although set in a very different time period, the effectiveness of the play is that it displays a universal human experience and provides us with characters we can identify with.
2. Our Town, Your Town- Using the Stage Manager’s introduction to Grover’s Corners as inspiration, the students will provide an introduction to their town or neighborhood. A rubric for this assignment is included.
