This is a 650+ slide PowerPoint presentation with built-in class notes (red slides), challenge questions with answers, built-in review questions, many video links, research links and activity, two page homework, answer key, lesson notes, and much more.
Also included is a 150+ slide PowerPoint review game with answers that reviews the entire set of lessons. A template sheet for recording answers is provided.
This PowerPoint begins with a guess the name of the Outer Planets based only on an image. An arrow points to a new Gas Giant for every slide. The answers are reveled in the first round and then students take over. What is a Gas Giant is then described in a step by step process covering all of the important aspects. A series of questions about density comparing the inner and outer planets follows. How density is obtained, and a few word problems follows by a neat set of slides that drop the planet into water to see if it will sink or float are presented. Students are then shown how to set-up their journal / notebook to gather research in a two page spread. They draw the Gas Giants and leave space for exploration / research. Each planet is then covered in detail with special consideration to their composition, year, day, unique features, distance from the Sun, etc. A Step by step approach with visuals make this portion of the PowerPoint engaging instead of overwhelming. Most of the information the students have already discovered through their research earlier. Links to explore are provided before each planet. Students explore the links and gather important information, the PowerPoint builds upon that research. Review opportunities are presented after each planet that has the students guess the moons in a series of slides, or find the bogus factoid form a list of facts about each planet. The correct answers are revealed after the questions. The demotion of Pluto is covered just before the Kuiper Belt in a series of slides. The Oort cloud and review of the size / entire solar system including the Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud concludes the PowerPoint. This is a really neat PowerPoint that balances student exploration / research with bring it back to the center. Amazing visuals are spread through. Many video links are provided that are all short clips. Please see my entire Astronomy Unit (2,830 Slides and much more) that I offer on TpT before purchasing this PowerPoint.
