In this sight word game, the astronauts are on a mission to identify the names of new planets that have been discovered. To do this, your “astronauts” will have to channel their sight word knowledge in order to save the universe! The sight words in this game have been taken from “Fry’s First 100” list.
To set up:
Print the astronauts and “sight word planets” on cardstock and laminate for durability. Use hot glue to attach each astronaut to a dowel rod (which can be purchased at any craft store).
This game is designed for small groups and would be perfect to incorporate into a sight word station or add to the Daily 5 “word work” station in your classroom. To begin, each player takes their astronaut and makes them “land” on a planet. As their astronaut touches down, each player says the sight word that is written on the corresponding planet. Players could also challenge each other by saying “make your astronaut land on ‘planet when’”. If the player can correctly identify their sight word, they can keep the planet. The player with the most planet cards after all planets have been properly “identified”, wins!
I hope your students have a stellar time with this sight word game! Feedback would be greatly appreciated!
