Do you have students struggling to learn their word wall words that do not follow typical phonics' rules? Do they keep trying to sound them out and become frustrated? Kathy Griffin takes 34 of these typical sight words and puts them into a song that is repetitive so they sing/read them over and over again. Children need repetitive practice with these harder words. Have the students stand up during the "What do you want?" part and throw their hands in the air. Your students can throw the words in jail for not following the rules. Have your students take turns standing up on different lines - boys vs girls, by rows, by individual children. You can even do the "wave."
Words included: many, through, the, very, been, water, give, other, great, word, live from, could, to, have, would, your, find, one, their, work, what, do, you, want, of, here, two, some, they, where, were said, there
Look for the .mov file and books that go along with this song on Kathy Griffin's TPT store. Uses the .mov file as a Quick Time file and use on your interactive whiteboard. Use the books for guided reading, listening center, or as homework.
