Outlining for notetaking from an informational text and outlining to organize writing are similar -- yet different -- concepts. This bundle provides you with both of my PowerPoints on these concepts.
This zipped folder contains the following:
~ Outlining for Notetaking,
which is a 30-slide PowerPoint that focuses on outlining skills for notetaking, using a sample text on Alcatraz.
~ A one-page PDF document that shares with you where I find good articles to teach outlining for notetaking.
~ Outlining for Writing and Research,
which is a 30-slide PowerPoint that focuses on outlining information under a thesis for a sample research paper on modern technology.
Outlining is a skill that directly supports development of the skills noted in CCSS ELA Literacy Standard 2 in Informational Text , which asks students to determine the main idea of a text, chart its development, and explain its relationship to other ideas.
Both PowerPoints teach similar skills, but focused specifically on the type of outlining required for the purpose. Those skills include the following:
~ Definition of hierarchy, and how does one exist in an outline
~ Steps to successful outlining (include systems of numbering and what kinds of information go where)
The preview above will give you a glimpse of both PowerPoints, but you may wish a more detailed view. For that, please visit the individual listings for each of these PowerPoints, which are also sold separately.
