Once a year, my students prepare and deliver a book talk! Students learn so much by doing this. They study their outside reading novel in more depth and learn much more about the writer's unique style. They also begin to make connections between books and between books and real-life experiences. Lastly, they learn how to organize and deliver and engaging and thoughtful speech. And the other students frequently hear about books that they would like to read! I highly recommend this project! I have easy-to-follow directions, an example outline, and, of course, A rubric, which makes assessing student work easy for you and transparent for everyone.
