This has been a very successful outside reading project for my seventh and eighth graders! This project asks students to read a biography or autobiography and write a monologue as the subject of their book. By focusing on traits and goals, we can see how extraordinary people overcome adversity to achieve great things! This translates well to seeing how traits in fictional characters drive plots! And, lastly but perhaps most importantly, it encourages students to reach for the best within themselves to overcome hardships and achieve their goals! Included here is the handout for students, a sign-up sheet, and a tracking sheet for students. As the monologues are presented, students remain active and engaged!
