This is a unit I developed especially for middle school students in cooperation with the Stony Brook University News Literacy program. It helps students to be stronger consumers of news by teaching them how to analyze the news that is all around them every day.
The unit includes possible teaching points for fifteen lessons, divided into three sections, or "bends."
This unit does not include activities or new resources, as those should be developed by you, the classroom teacher, in order to engage your students. It provides ways for you to frame the information and the language to help you guide students to become critical thinkers.
Additional supporting resources are available through my shop.
