This product contains a student edition of Ovid’s Metamorphoses with explanatory notes and selected readings that highlight the better-known Greco-Roman myths while also maintaining the integrity of Ovid’s original work. The text of Ovid has been reduced to 50 pages in length, approximately 1/3 the length of the original work. In creating this edition, I have tried to make the text accessible for high school and junior high readers in a way that keeps the text lively, interesting, and moving. Ovid is considered by many classicists to be one of the greatest and most important authors of the Roman period, and certainly among the most important writers to engage the question of the role of myth in society. Each of Ovid’s original fifteen books has been summarized briefly so that students will be able to maintain a sense of how the narrative was progressing, while also being able to read a substantial portion of the Metamorphoses in English translation.
