This products supports a STAAR-Alt Essence Statement for 5th Grade Science.
I am a Life Skills Teacher and my student’s skills vary from those who need hand-over-hand assistance to those who can independent read and write. This is why I created this science unit. I use this unit with my elementary life skills students who are in grades kindergarten thru fourth grade; however, life cycles is one of the STAAR-Alt Essence Statements for 2014 and 2015.
One of my favorite subjects to teach is science! My students love hands-on experiements and observations. My students document all their work in their Science Journal. Documentation can include their own art work, writing, photographs, coloring, etc. I like to include pictures of my students performing an experiment or observation. My students like to look at their pictures and the parents enjoy brousing thru the journals with their children.
For my journals, I use a standard composition student composition book. Either my students or I will cut and glue pages into their book for each unit. I leave one side blank so that my students can write, draw, or glue related pictures or photos of themselves doing the activity. You can also print the pages and staple them to create a journal.
For each page, I have included a “suggested directions”. These are ideas that I have used in my classroom successfully. Also are suggestions to supplement with on-line resources and books from your class or school library.
Designed for a class with differentiated learners, this product can be used for students in regular education pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade.
My students loved learning about oviparous animals. I know that your students will too!
