The content of this unit was designed to help the students celebrate Cinco de mayo, while learning and appreciating a little bit of the Mexican culture and heritage.
There are 5 literacy and 4 math center or whole class activities. 1) Spanish/English words and their corresponding picture cards for “concentration” games with a partner. Students can match the Spanish word to the picture, or match the Spanish to English cards, or make it more interesting by matching all three of a kind (Spanish-English-Picture)! There is an exception: tacos, piñata, and maracas have no English counterpart, so they would have to be collected as pairs 2) Student booklet to cut, staple, and read- explaining the significance of Cinco de mayo 3) Be a Cinco de mayo Spanish Word Detective! using magnifying glass, find the Spanish words in a sombrero! 4) Word-Making Fiesta! How many words can you make out of Cinco de mayo? 5) Label the parts- activity with Spanish/English words.
