Topic maintenance can be a tricky concept for many students, who want to focus on what they’d like to talk about. This activity is designed to help students understand what it means to stay on topic. For each topic, there are eleven comments or questions that are on topic. This activity may be used in several ways:
1.) Have students sort the question/comment cards into the appropriate conversational topic.
2.) Have students identify which cards are on topic and which cards are off topic.
3.) Have students identify if a card asks a question or makes a comment.
On Topic/Off Topic and Comment/Question cards can be reused to reinforce these concepts during small group conversations and less structured therapy activities.
