This activity, based on the book Owls by Gail Gibbons, includes:
-Road Map signals to indicate when to go, slow down, or stop reading.
-Café Strategies such as cross checking, using text features, summarizing, finding the main idea, back up and reread, and more to guide them in reading this book.
-Informational writing guide, brainstorming and checklist.
While using this activity students will learn to adjust and apply reading rates to match the text with support from signals. Signals are green smile (go), yellow triangle (slow), and red octagon (stop). This is an excellent tool to support students in learning and applying Cafe strategies in their reading. It can be used as a guided, partner, or independent reading tool.
