Use this cute owl-themed fact and opinion game to help reinforce the concept with your students. It includes 24 task cards of owl facts and opinions that could be used in a variety of cooperative learning structures, but it comes with directions and resources for a Kagan structure called "showdown".
Group students into teams of 3-5. Each student needs one fact card and one opinion card. One student will start with the “showdown captain” card. The rest of the cards will be placed face down in the middle. The showdown captain will pick one card and read the statement out loud to the group. Each person will decide whether the statement is a fact or an opinion and place that card face down in front of them. When the showdown captain sees that all teammates have made a choice he/she will say “Showdown!” and all the players will show their cards. The group will check to see that everyone’s answers match. If all are in agreement, the team celebrates. If not, they should discuss and coach each other until all agree on the same answer and then celebrate. The captain card rotates to the next player and play continues until all the cards are gone or the teacher calls for time.
I hope your students enjoy!
