Product Description
In “Owl at Home,” Arnold Lobel—author of the legendary Frog and Toad stories--provides readers with an opportunity to see the world through Owl’s eyes, where winter becomes an unwelcome “guest,” his feet are “strange bumps,” he cries to make tear-water “tea,” he discovers he can’t be two places at once, and the moon is a “friend.” Use our Text-Dependent Questions written for each chapter to teach the Common Core State Standards for Reading Literature 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9. Each chapter of the book comes with its own close reading worksheet (see details below), that provide a week’s worth of independent, paired, or small-group work! Answer keys are provided for teacher reference and can be used for modified work or handwriting practice. Also included are two paragraph writing activities that satisfy the CCSS for Writing 2 (narrative writing) one for “Strange Bumps” (sequencing the events of the story), and one for “Owl and the Moon” (write about a friend). Both come with a “paragraph builder” that scaffolds the writing in a fun way and makes it easy to break writing sessions into shorter blocks. Get the “max” out of your read aloud time with Max Learner Book Detective!
